I’m sitting here counting my blessings. Yesterday while at work, I walked out of the building with a coworker and I asked, “Will you be here tomorrow?”
“Nope it’s my off day,” he said.
“Wow – how did you manage to get Thursday off?”
Bear in mind this is a young fellow – not over 35. He said they found out his wife has breast cancer and Thursday she’ll be having chemotherapy.
Talk about being punched in the gut. I noticed he had been acting differently – more quiet, distant – but cancer to his beautiful 31-year-old wife… The announcement really put things in perspective. I’ve been complaining about being hot, having no sleep, yadda yadda yadda while here is this young family trying to decide their next move during such a complicated time: Start a family. Don’t start a family. Get new jobs. Stay where they are. Go for that promotion. Just hang tight…
So let’s take a moment to remind ourselves, as bad as it gets, please remember there is always somebody worse off than you. Instead of focusing on the negative, let’s count the blessings that we have and praise God every day for what He has given.
